Run Baby Run: Mohanlal plays a Reuters stringer
The movie, 'Run Baby Run' is a comic-action thriller. Though the protagonist leads the comic narrative.

Inconsistent behavioral pattern is the character's distinguishing feature. This unpredictable nature compliments with his profession - that of a channel cameraman. His name is Venu and portraying this character soon on celluloid will be Mohanlal, in Joshiy's new movie, 'Run Baby Run'. The movie, which will kick-start in Kochi next week, is the first solo script penned by Sachi (of the script writing duo Sachi-Sethu).

"Mohanlal plays the role of a stringer with Reuters. When Venu gets hired by a private channel for a sting operation, he enthusiastically takes up the job to be the cameraman of the program. But he is shocked to see the reporter who is to accompany him in the investigation. It is Renuka, his ex flame, with whom he had parted ways due to an ego clash. Both of them start their journey together to the spot with an air of discomfort between them. But a time comes when they are left with no option but to run for their lives, and eventually Venu finds himself saving Renuka," Sachi narrates the plot line.

The writer is thrilled to have Mohanlal in the lead. He says, "I took a one-line idea of the film to director Joshiy. After hearing it, he asked me who I had in mind for the central character. I named Mohanlal and Joshiy replied that he had the same idea," he says. And he has reasons for casting Mohanlal.

"The movie, 'Run Baby Run' is a comic-action thriller. Though the protagonist leads the comic narrative, it is not a part meant for a comedian. It is situational and Mohanlal's peculiar mannerisms and spontaneous rendition of emotions make him peerless for such roles," says Sachi.

Sachi and Sethu so far have penned five scripts together - 'Chocolate', 'Robinhood', 'Doubles', 'Make Up Man' and 'Seniors'. It was after delivering a blockbuster with 'Seniors' that the duo decided to part ways.

"While scripting 'Seniors', we took the decision to go our own ways and work separately. It was neither ego nor a rift that prompted us to do so. But we just wanted to apply our individual thoughts completely on one script. If we are penning it together, the collective effort is there, but there is a good chance that we will have to compromise on many things. We just wanted to avoid that," says Sachi.

Were there any challenges penning a script meant for a superstar, who has a wide repertoire of some of the greatest films and roles?

"The prime challenge while scripting for Mohanlal or Mammootty is to identify a character that they have never done before. As experienced actors who have been ruling Malayalam cinema for three decades, identifying a vivid character for them and placing them in a different scenario is the foremost challenge," he adds. Sachi believes that movies in the comic genre are still a hot favorite among Malayalis. "I think, everybody likes to see a pleasant and feel-good movie. The gen-next; have no time for emotional melodramas. They will boo if we create a clinch, emotional scene. Even songs are not a must in Malayalam movies these days, and that is strictly my opinion," he adds.

'Run Baby Run' is produced by Milan Jaleel under the banner of Galaxy Cinema and is slated for an Onam release. Biju Menon plays an important character in the film in which Amala Paul is expected to play the female lead.
