Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav’s wife Sadhna Gupta passed away on Saturday afternoon after battling long-time illnesses. She was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gurugram for the last four days, sources said, adding that she was in the ICU.

Sources also said that Gupta had been ill for a long time, and her situation didn’t improve despite medicines and treatment. As per the information received, the body is being airlifted to Lucknow.
Sources said that Sadhna Gupta’s treatment was going on under the supervision of Dr Sushila Kataria at Medanta Hospital. The death was caused due to infection in the liver apart from the lungs and kidneys.
Condolences poured in moments after the news of Gupta’s death broke, with Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, among others, expressing grief.

Sadhna Gupta was Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second wife. Her son’s name is Prateek Yadav and her daughter-in-law is Aparna Yadav, a BJP leader. Yadav’s first wife and the mother of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Malti Devi, died in 2003.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was in Delhi at the time of his wife’s death, the party sources said. Akhilesh Yadav is overseeing the arrangements and the details of the last rites will be finalised soon, they said.
Senior party leaders and workers started arriving at the SP patron’s house soon after the news of Gupta’s death broke.
