New Delhi: Sania Mirza has started the new year on a high with a stunning win over Alicia Molik to reach the semi-finals of the Moorilla Hobart International on Wednesday.
Sania beat the former world number eight Australian 6-4, 6-1 in a little over an hour to win her third straight match on the trot.
Sania will play Russia's Anna Chakvetadze in the the semi-finals on Thursday.
But Sania who was partnering Molik in the doubles, was knocked out in the quarter-finals by Maria Camerin and Gisela Dulko 7-6, 7-6.
American former world number one Serena Williams, who is on a comeback trail after a long injury lay-off, is also competing in the event as a warm-up to the Australian Open starting next week.
Mahesh Bhupathi, meanwhile, was knocked out of the Medibank International in Sydney.
Bhupathi and his partner Fabrice Santoro of Spain were beaten 7-6, 6-1 in the quarter-finals by Paul Hanley of Australia and Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe.
There was better luck for Leander Paes who went through to the semis along with his partner Martin Damm.
The duo beat Ashley Fisher and Tripp Phillips 6-2, 5-7 and 10-5.
