Nineteen-year-old Sumit Chatterjee, a resident of Burdwan district, consumed poison on Monday morning after he faired badly in his internal examinations.
Chatterjee’s parents have reached Kolkata and his body has been sent for postmortem
The University however is silent on the issue.
This is not the first time that a student is committing. There have been numerous times when students battling depression or academic pressure have given up their lives.
In December last year a fourth year BTech student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Powai had also committed suicide following academic pressure.
