The four working patients of the Government Mental Health Centre (MHC), Peroorkada, who are accused in the death of Satnam Singh, a Bihari youth, have been confirmed mentally stable in an examination conducted by the medical authorities.
The HoD of the Psychiatry Department of the Government Medical College on Friday submitted a report in this regard before the Judicial First Class Magistrate-I K P Sunil. The four working patients were subjected to medical examination following the Crime Branch team’s request.
The team had sought the sanction of Magistrate courts in Thiruvananthapuram, Nedumangad, Kollam and Alappuzha, where the four accused belonged, to take them into custody as part of the investigation.
The permission was sought because the four were convicted earlier in crimes and they were brought to the Mental Health Centre while they were under imprisonment.
Among the four, three were involved in murder cases and one in a domestic violence case. After the treatment was completed, they were retained in the hospital as working patients, as the prison authorities did not show any interest in taking them back.
