Jamshedpur: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and several other industrial and trade organisations on Sunday observed a day-long fast and staged dharna near Pardih Kali Mandir, on National Highway 33 in support of their demand for immediate action to improve the pitiable condition of the NH-33.
Led by the SCCI President, Suresh Sonthalia, around 200 persons representing various organizations took part in the fast-cum-dharna programme to mount pressure on the government to make the national highway 33 motorable urgently.
"The condition of NH-33 has worsened over the past two-three years and the government have not taken any initiative to improve the prevailing condition except assurances and filling the potholes," Sonthalia said adding that SCCI and others have raised the issue before the government several times in the past. Meanwhile, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) (JVM) has called for a 48-hour economic blockade on the National Highway - 33 from October 26 demanding immediate step to improve the condition of the highway.
JVM MP Ajay Kumar in a statement said the issues has been repeatedly taken up with the Prime Minister, Union Minister of Road and Surface Transport, National Highway Authority of India and Jharkhand Chief Minister, among other concerned departments, but in vain so far.
