The State Government on Wednesday informed the Madras High Court that the draft guidelines with regard to school vehicles was ready and would be placed before the Cabinet in a “few days for approval.”
Time was then sought from the court for submission of the guidelines. The court granted a period of one week. When the matter came before the first bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and A Arumugasami, counsel representing the government sought time for submission of the draft rules to the court.
“I have taken instructions. The Secretary has said the guidelines will be placed before the Cabinet for its approval in a few days. Once the process is done, we will place it before the court,” he said.
The government was then granted a period of one week. The court had taken suo motu cognisance of newspaper reports on the accident resulting in the death of a standard II student Sruthi, last month.
The three persons arrested in connection with the case--Seeman, driver of the bus, N Paul Raj, administrator of school, and N Ravi, transport officer responsible for maintenance of school buses-- were granted bail on Wednesday with several conditions by Judge G M Akbar Ali.
