THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Thursday demanded the central and state governments to exert pressure on the owners of the Italian merchant vessel Enrica Lexie to pay compensation to the families of the two fishermen who were shot dead by the ship’s crew.Terming Wednesday’s incident ‘’shocking’’, Achuthanandan demanded stern action against the culprits. He also urged the central and state governments to provide sufficient security to fishermen.In another statement, the Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation urged organisations to stage protest demonstrations on the coast on Friday. Federation president T Peter and general secretary P P John demanded that cases should be registered for murder against the ship’s crew.
