The record stands at 8-8 for the Williams sisters.

New Delhi: The Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, are through to the last eight in the women's singles draw. Unfortunately, only one of them will go through to the semi-final because they play each other in their quarter-final on Wednesday.

The sister act has been on show this week at the Flushing Meadows, 7th seeded Venus was in compelling form in her fourth round match against Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland. She won 6-1, 6-3, her fourth straight straight sets win at the tournament

Serena too has come through four rounds without losing a set. Her latest victim was French wildcard, Severine Bremond, who was packed off 6-2, 6-2 but the win was soured as she realised her next opponent would be her own sister.

"I mean it sucks that it can't be the finals or at least the semis. I mean, it's so soon. Actually for me, I've been really working on playing more and getting my ranking together. You know, it's just disappointing to be so soon," said Serena.

Venus and Serena met last time in the most coveted title in tennis. Venus won the Wimbledon final to level their career record at 8-8. So, the winner of this one will have something extra to brag about at the dinner table.

"I don't know, I think more than anything she likes to win. She loves her job and loves what she does and loves the competition and all that comes with being able to be at the top of what you do, best in the world. Ultimately that's what it boils down to, I think, for both of us," said Venus.

Between them the sisters have won four US open crowns. So whoever wins this one will be the odds-on-favourite to go on and take the title.
