Train services in the Vijayawada-Kazipet section of South Central Railway were disrupted on Monday night due to torrential rain in Warangal and Khammam districts.
As many as one passenger and eight express trains were cancelled and seven were regulated.
The disruption was mainly due to overflow of rain water on the tracks between Gundrathimadugu and Dornakal stations forcing the authorities to detain trains at several stations and cancel trains that were about to start from Secunderabad and coastal Andhra stations.
According to the sources, efforts are on to assess the extent of damage.
The services will be resumed after the waters recede.
Railway authorities said an additional enquiry counter has been opened at major stations on the Balharshah- Kazipet-Vijayawada section and Secunderabad-Kazipet section to help the stranded passengers.
The emergency control rooms have also been opened at the SCR HQ-Rail Nilayam and Secunderabad and Vijayawada divisions.
Meanwhile, the officials said passengers are being refunded for the cancelled trains
