Sexual assault case: Police team leaves for Indore to arrest Asaram
Asaram's deadline to appear before the Jodhpur police for questioning in the sexual assault case ends on Friday.

Jodhpur: A team of the Rajasthan Police left for Indore to arrest self-styled godman Asaram after he failed to produce himself before the Jodhpur police for questioning in the sexual assault case. The team of police is expected to reach Indore by 8 AM on Saturday.

Asaram's deadline to appear before the Jodhpur police for questioning in the sexual assault case ended on Friday.

Asaram had applied for a transit anticipatory bail application filed by him in the Gujarat High Court which he latter withdrew after the court indicated that it would not grant him bail.

Jodhpur DCP Ajay Lamba also clarified that the police was under no political preassure in the case. "There is no political arrest on us regarding Asaram's arrest," said Lamba.

Regarding Asaram's letter requesting for more time, Lamba said: "Asaram's letter was not convincing, so we won't give him more time. The letter doesn't give reasons for not appearing".

Asaram is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl and inmate of his ashram.

His son Narayan Sai claimed that his father had booked tickets for a flight to New Delhi this morning but his health suddenly deteriorated because of which the trip was cancelled. Asked when Asaram plans to go to Jodhpur, Sai told reporters that it will all depend on the medical condition of his father.

"Asaram has no justifiable reason to skip the deadline. A team led by the investigation officer will leave for Madhya Pradesh to question him," he said.
