BANGALORE: Kannada Janashakti, a pro-Kannada organisation, felicitated folklore scholar Dr H S Ramachandregowda with the Shantaveri Gopalagowda Award (2012) on Tuesday.Presenting the award to Ramachandregowda, writer Dr Bargur Ramachandrappa, who received last year’s award, said, “It is a great opportunity to present this award to a man who started singing farmers’ song and went on to become someone who could easily talk to the followers of different schools of thoughts like Gandhism, Marxism and Lohiaism, and yet, he never gave up the philosophy he believed.”He added, “There is a need for a socialists like Shantaveri Gopalagowda who mentored leaders like J H Patel, S Bangarappa, and D Devaraj Urs, who became the chief ministers later. Urs was inspired and understood the depth of Gopalagowda’s works and life which were devoted to the poor and working classes.”“If we look back at our history, Karnataka can model without having to look at Gujrat as a model for development. We have our own history and pride,” he added.Kannada Janashakti President C K Rame Gowda and former Kannada Sahitya Parishat treasurer Pundalika Halambi were present on the occasion.
