CHENNAI: The Shiv Nadar University, the private university launched by the Shiv Nadar foundation in Uttar Pradesh last year, on Tuesday announced a slew of scholarships for its undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses. Addressing press persons, founder-Vice Chancellor of the University, Nikhil Sinha, said the institution has widened its scope this year by introducing Masters and PhD courses. In order to ensure that meritorious students who opt for the institutions were not denied the opportunity for financial reasons, he said a range of scholarship and financial assistance programmes that aims to cover at least 60 per cent of the students were being introduced this year. He said the merit scholarship under the UG programmes, categorised under different heads, would range between `2 lakh and `11.6 lakh per student for four years. Outstanding achievers opting for the Masters programmes will be eligible for scholarships that would waive full tution and other fee amounts. For those who miss out on the scholarships in the UG courses the University will bear the interest expenses on education loans up to a maximum of `4 lakh for the first three years of the programme, Nikhil said. The first batch of the University had 270 students of which about 120 were from Chennai. The varsity is now looking to increase the intake to about 500 students given the fact that an array of new courses have been introduced.
