VELLORE: Over 10 trains, including express trains and electric trains, were delayed by 45 minutes as the signal between Chennai and Arakkonam failed on Thursday morning, delaying some express trains from Chennai to various places via Arakkonam. The Alappuzha Express, Kovai Express, Sapthagiri Express, Brindhavan Express and some electric trains from Chennai to Arakkonam were delayed. Following an alert, railway employees fixed the fault. Daily passengers commuting between these two places were severely affected.A similar snag was reported in the Arakkonam signal in December last year, and railway employees rectified the problem in less than an hour. On January 2, the railway premises at Arakkonam junction were picketed by commuters when trains were delayed by one-and-a-half hours. Almost 15 trains were delayed then due to track maintenance work and a thousand passengers had to wait at the Arakkonam junction on the first working day of the new year.
