NUAGAON ( SUNDARGARH ): Tension over killing of a salesman by an organised crime gang for extortion on Thursday was defused with the compensation being extended to the bereaved family on Friday and police assuring to take on the dreaded gang firmly.Reports said bike-borne miscreants shot dead Mukesh Sahu, an employee of a fuel filling station, at the bordering Nuagaon area under Hathibari Police limits of Sundargarh district. The bunk is owned by businessman Shalimar Shaw alias Ghoga Seth.Earlier, the self-styled criminal gang __ People’s Liberation Front of India(PLFI)__ had unsuccessfully demanded ` 2 lakh extortion from Ghoga. An hour after the murder, angry villagers, holding Ghoga guilty for the murder, went on a rampage torching his jeep, a mini-truck and two bikes. They stopped short of setting the petrol bunk on fire as police arrived and took the body to Hathibari Police Station.Tension flared up again on Friday morning when the villagers detained the body at Ghoga’s house and partially ransacked it. An amicable settlement was reached at about 1.30 pm with Ghoga promising ` 5-lakh compensation to the bereaved family. The autopsy would be done on Saturday. Sundargarh SP Sanjeev Arora, asserting to arrest the culprits soon, said police, CRPF and SOG personnel have begun operation to sanitise the forested pockets.Taking advantage of the deep forest cover along Odisha-Jharkhand border, criminals of Jharkhand have unleashed a reign of terror roping in local criminals.In the name of PLFI they have spread their tentacles to Chitapedi, Lukumbeda, Urmai, Badajojoda and Sorda GPs of Nuagaon block and are suspected to be alternatively using the name Jharkhand Liberation Tiger (JLT) to mislead the police.
