HYDERABAD: Just how much money is there in Prashanti Nilayam? Jolted by two major intercepts of unaccounted cash being carried to Bangalore from the late Sai Baba’s ashram, officials are wondering whether the inventory of wealth recorded by the Sathya Sai Central Trust conceals more than it reveals. The day after doors to the Baba’s Yajurveda Mandir were opened, the trust announced that Rs 11.56 crore cash, 98 kg of gold and 307 kg of silver was all that it found. Officials suspect there may be a lot more lying around. "The information we have suggests that a huge quantity of cash, diamonds, gold and silver is still concealed in the chamber. The seizure of Rs 35 lakh from two couriers over the weekend is a clear pointer to this,’’ said a source in the government.Sleuths sniffing for more cash in the Baba’s chambers have learnt that there are some more safes and vaults that are yet to be opened. The keys to these are with one of the trust members."We stongly suspect that there are false ceilings, false floors and rooms concealed behind almirahs in the ashram. But since it is a delicate matter, the government is treading softly,’’ sources said.A top source disclosed to Express that the cash seized on the road to Bangalore indeed originated from Yajurveda Mandir. It was meant for W Srinivasan, also known as Madras Srinivasan, he said.“In his statement to the police, intercepted car driver Chandrasekhar claimed he was sent by Srinivasan to collect the amount,’’ sources said. The Anantapur police are likely to record Srinivasan’s statement on Wednesday. The amount was taken out of the mandir, kept in the boot of the car and was being driven to Bangalore he was caught.
