President Patil attended a function organised by College of Engineering and Technology of Shram Sadhana Bombay Trust, the President noted that India has about 3,500 engineering colleges with over 4.5 lakh students graduating every year, but the capacity is falling short of the requirement.

Observing that the role of technology and innovation has become more critical in the 21st century, President Pratibha Patil today said India needs to expand its education and research infrastructure base.
