HYDERABAD: In what appears to be a move to hasten the process of disqualification of MLAs who voted against the government in the Assembly on December 5, speaker Nadendla Manohar on Wednesday issued notices to the 17 rebel MLAs against whom disqualification petitions were filed by the Congress and PRP legislature parties. He directed them to appear before him for an explanation to the disqualification petitions.Rebel MLAs B Shobha Nagi Reddy (PRP) and K Ramachandra Reddy (Congress) were asked to appear before the Speaker on Jan 18 followed by K Surekha, G Srikant Reddy, A Amarnath Reddy, B Srinivasa Reddy, G Babu Rao, D Dharmana Krishna Das (Jan 19), K Chennakesava Reddy, M Prasada Raju, B Gurunadha Reddy, P Subhashchandra Bose, M Sucharitha (Jan 20), and P Ramakrishna Reddy, K Srinivasulu, M Chandrasekhar Reddy and T Balaraju (Jan 21). These MLAs, who were with the Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy, defied parties' whip and voted against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government during the noconfidence motion moved by the TDP.The Congress appears to have come to the conclusion that it would be better to disqualify sooner than later as further delay would send signals that the party was afraid of taking action against him which would only embolden Jagan in intensifying the offensive against the Congress.
