HYDERABAD: The Police Department is taking all measures for the welfare of its personnel, director-general of police V Dinesh Reddy has said.Speaking to newsmen on the eve of Police Commemoration Day, the DGP said special emphasis was being laid on the health of policemen and their families and education of their children.The department had submitted several proposals to the government in this regard. “Policemen undergo a lot of stress and strain while discharging their duties. All the police personnel should undergo biannual medical check-ups for early diagnosis of ailments if any and to get timely medical treatment,” Dinesh Reddy said. The DGP sought more grants from the government for the police welfare fund.Steps would be taken to improve the service conditions of home guards after discussing the matter with the government, he said.In all, 634 police personnel had laid down their lives while discharging duties this year in the country. Of them, six martyrs belonged to the state. As part of Police Commemoration Week which is being observed from October 15, several programmes have been organised by the police. A large number of policemen donated blood at blood donation camps organised to mark the occasion.General public were provided an opportunity to visit police stations as part of the Open House programme to make them aware of the functioning of the police setup better.The Commemoration Week concludes with the Commemoration Day Parade at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial at Goshamahal Stadium on Friday.Later, Dinesh Reddy released an audio CD highlighting the sacrifices of police personnel. The song is written and composed by B Sai Charan, son of Jagadeesh, who works as a superintendent in the DGP’s office.
