HYDERABAD: As part of the nation-wide protest against genetically modified (GM) food crops on the anniversary of Quit-India Day, farmers across the state registered protests under ‘Raitu Swarajya Vedika” on Tuesday. In the city, 100 representatives, including farmers from Medak and Karimnagar, carried out protests at Gandhi statue on M.G Road, Secunderabad and at the office of commissioner of agriculture, Basheerbagh. The protests organized by Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture (ASHA) condemned the open-air field trials of GM crops and was against the monopoly exercised by seed company Monsanto in hiking the price of cotton seeds from `100 to `1,800.
