HYDERABAD: Starting next academic year, students of Classes III, VI and VII of the state board can look forward to revised textbooks based on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF)-2005.“The drafts for the textbooks have been already sent for printing and the new edition should be available from June in time for the new session,” director of the State Council of Educational Resear ch and Training (SCERT), B.Seshu Kumari has said.Visual appeals of the books has been the prime focus in finalizing the design and layout of the books, according to SCERT officials.Students can look forward to parables, stories and fables to drive home moral education as a part of the language textbooks.“We had to consider 25 letters from different departments to include a specific value as a part of the regular lessons, while keeping the size of the textbook in mind. The students are already burdened with syllabus and we have attempted to convey the issues through a story in the language books as it provides the flexibility to include various aspects,” SCERT director has said. The textbooks addresses 10 core issues, including that of urban migration, disability and the need for an inclusive society as well as state measures such as Right To Information Act (RTI) which is already a part of the syllabus in Class V.Media reports and coverage of different topics in accordance with the news-worthiness of the issue have also been included in Telugu textbook. The revision of the syllabus keeping in mind NCF- 2005 maintains an edge over NCERT textbooks of mathematics and science.“In AP we do not offer biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry combination in Intermediate and hence the SCERT books cover a little extra ground,” the director said. The revised drafts for Classes IV, V, VIII and IX will be implemented in the next academic year. The revised textbooks for Classes I and II were implemented in the last academic session.
