KOCHI: The talks between the striking nurses and the Lakeshore Hospital Management failed on Tuesday after both the parties stuck to their stances. The main contention is on the issue of the trainee nurses and the nurses on probation. The management stuck to its stance that the trainnee nurses are not the employees of the organisation and hence will be asked to step down after their term. There are a total of 18 such nurses, three of whom have already been asked to step down. “The management is adamant on not taking back the three nurses who have been dismissed. We will continue the strike until they take the nurses back,” said Jithun Lohi, Ernakulam district secretary of Indian Nurses Association. The nurses alleged that this was a violation of the agreement that was signed by the parties on the February 12. “The management had agreed to take no disciplinary action against the ones who had gone on strike. Now the fate of around 250 students who are on probation hangs in the balance,” said Remya Rani, general secretary of the Lakeshore Branch of INA.
