BANGALORE: Forum Value Mall in association with the Whitefield Club recently organised Pet It . A mega dog saw some of the most talented canines in Bengaluru strut their stuff on the big stage.Matching their skills against each other, the 24 faithful companions of 16 different breeds from Dalmations and Rottweillers to rare Napoleon Mastiffs and Jack Russel Terriers, had their mettle tested with a wide range of contests.In the opening event of the show — Dressed to Kill — the dogs took to the ramp, showcasing the latest in vogue from the world of Pet-wear. Competing for different categories, the tail waggers thrilled the audience with their panache.“The competition was intense,” said Suvir, the activation head for a popular radio channel and one of the judges for the competition. “In the end, we had to resort to an audience poll to decide the winner,” he mentioned.A show of hands awarded the ‘Mr Pet-It’ pageant to Dr Gangadhar’s Black Pomeranian - ‘Pepper’ while Ash’s Springer Spaniel - ‘Budweiser’ was crowned ‘Ms Pet-It’ and ‘Venice’ - Paraf’s Chihuahua was adjudged the ‘Best Dressed’. The prize for the ‘Funniest Attire’ went to Khushi’s Spitz - ‘Buddy’.This was followed by ‘His Masters Voice’ and ‘Trick & Treat’, where the most obedient and skillful of Man’s best friends stole the show. The pets sat, shook hands, fetched, played ‘hide ‘n’ seek’ and even opened the latches to their doghouses; all to the surprise of the viewers and judges alike. Ruchita’s Dalmation - ‘Momo’ won the ‘Most Obedient’ pet award and the ‘Trick & Treat’ title was bestowed on ‘Fiesta’ - Mr Giri’s Beagle.Anirudh’s ‘BJ’ (a Labrador) was adjudged ‘Healthiest Pet’, following a thorough examination of the pets by Dr Narendra, veterinarian, Bangalore Pet Hospital. BJ also went on to become the Overall Champion of the Forum Value Mall - Pet-It Mega Dog Show 2011 thanks to his all-round performance in all competitions.Dr Narendra, who was also the principal judge, expressed his delight at being able to be a part of the Mega Dog Show. “Animals require constant attention, praise and regular exercise for their health and development. Pet shows provide a platform for all of these and are an essential and fun activity,” he commented.
