Students of Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women got a first hand experience as entrepreneurs at a day-long trade fair, ‘Shasun Bazaar 12’ organised on the college campus recently.
The Centre for Entrepreneurial and Leadership Development at the college gave the opportunity to the students to enhance their entrepreneurial and marketing skills, through the trade fair, which was completely planned and executed by the students.
S Padmavathy, Dean of the college, said, “This is the second consecutive year we are organising such an event. Students are being educated regularly on entrepreneurial skills through clubs such as the National Entrepreneurial Network and Students in Free Enterprise. This fair is not in-house buying. It’s open to the general public as well.”
C K Deepa, coordinator of the event said, “There were 112 stalls, each manned by five students, who shared every activity in the particular trade, starting from investments to profits. Last year, around 7,000 people visited the trade fair. ”
The fair had various products and stalls such as textiles, accessories, arts and crafts, planetarium, food stalls and so on.
When a group of students were asked about their experience as entrepreneurs, they said, “Apart from the subject-oriented classes, these kind of events helps us understand the nuances of a particular business. We got an opportunity to apply our knowledge practically on what we learnt as theory. We became our own bosses today.”
Deepa added, “We also distributed awards to students under a number of categories such as budding entrepreneur, best advertisement and best marketing strategy.”
The fair was inaugurated by Vummudi Kuppuraj of Vummudi Bangaru Chetti & Sons.
