Suicide by student: GRP quizzes school staff

BHUBANESWAR: Investigation into the death of a Class IX student of Capital High School, Unit III, started with Government Railway Police (GRP) quizzing staff of the school. Since a controversy had arisen over why the student, Pratap Keshari Jena, ended his life, the GRP began the process by seeking information from the teachers and other staff. Jena had allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train on Thursday night allegedly due to humiliation meted out to him by some teachers. However, the school authorities have strongly refuted the allegations.CAMPUS CLASH: A clash broke out between two groups of students of Ekamra College on Monday leaving at least seven of them injured, two critically. With the students’ body election drawing near, police said the two groups were at loggerheads which led to violence. All the injured have been hospitalised.YOUTH ASSAULTED: A youth was assaulted by unidentified persons on Utkal University campus on Monday night. He was identified as Amiya Kumar Swain, a native of Dhenkanal district. Police said Swain was rescued in a bruised state and has been hospitalised. There was no clear picture on what was Swain doing on the campus, who roughed him up and why. Sahid Nagar Police are investigating.
