Apart from CAT, there are a host of entrance exams which give admission to a lot many good schools. Can you please tell how good is the MFC course offered by the Department of Financial Studies of Delhi University? (Arvind Charanyan V, Chennai)

Which section should be attempted first in CAT? Some say that it should be started with maths as it helps to develop concentration? (Rahul Jain, Chandrapur)

Answer: It depends on what your strength and weakness are. Do not start with your weak area. It is preferable to start with the area where your strength lies in. If you gather four to five marks for sure in the first 10 minutes, it will boost your confidence.

I am an associate system engineer working for one of the worlds largest Software companies. I will have an experience of two years by June 2006. I wish to know the Percentile. I need to score much to get calls from the IIMs. What should be the scores in individual sections? My scores in VA/RC section have been encouraging than the DI and QUANT section. (Prashant, Gurgoan)

Answer: In order to be sure of a call from IIMs, you need to aim for an overall 99 percentile with balance scores in each section (read above 95 percentile). You can use VA/RC section to maximise your overall scores.

How many mock papers should we attend in a week just before CAT ? Is it good to attend two to three, as long as we analyse all of them? (Manish Soni, Bangalore)

Answer: It is suggested that you do one paper only, and at the most two, in the week preceding CAT. It is better to focus on revisions than work on something new.

Hi, I m working with a SW Company. I am interested in MBA, and want to take CAT. However, my preparation is very bad. What should I do? Should I join a coaching class and leave my job prior to two to three months before CAT, please suggest. (Kaushik Mukherjee, Hyderabad)

Answer: You may look at the option that you have suggested. However, as a manager you are expected to be multi-tasking. And I expect that if you have enough motivation to achieve, you should be able to work as well as prepare for your studies

What's your reaction?
