Mumbai: Direct-to-home TV broadcast service provider Tata Sky has hiked its subscription rates by up to 8 per cent (up to Rs 370), on its select long-duration as well monthly packs from this month.

The move comes after its rivals like Airtel TV, Videocon's D2H, Zee's Dish TV among others, hiked their rates last month.

However, the company spared subscribers of its monthly basic pack from any hike, which is valued at Rs 220. The hike is part of an annual exercise undertaken to offset inflation, the company said.

"It is our constant endeavour to add richer content through popular and regional channels. Despite new channels being added to our bouquet of services, we did not hike our rates. Hence, to sustain quality of service, there is a change in tariff in select premium packages," Tata Sky told PTI.

According to the company, an annual subscription fee of its 'Supreme Sports' kids pack has been increased to Rs 3,520 as against Rs 3,150 earlier, while a subscriber opting for its 'Metro' pack would have to shell out Rs 220 more, since it costs Rs 3,960 now, as against Rs 3,740 earlier.

Similarly, annual charges for 'Dhamal Cricket Music' pack have been increased by Rs 100 to 2,600 and that of its 'Grand Sports' pack to Rs 4,950 from Rs 4,730, the company said.

The hike in monthly plans for these packs ranges from three to five per cent, Tata Sky said.
