Guwahati: Team India have drawn first blood in the series against Pakistan and the ease with which the victory was achieved will fill their supporters with great hope for the rest of the series and as the team begins to look like a close-knit unit, Virender Sehwag might have to watch the series from the sidelines.
It is rare for an Indo-Pak game not to have twists and turns but in Guwahati the game was dominated by India from start to finish.
The keen eyes already fear Pakistan may be outclassed by India in the series.
“Pakistan definitely looked a weaker side. Indians deserved the victory. The entire match was in their control. They look like the better side in this series,” said cricketer Waqar Younis .
Dhoni and his team at the moment have a problem of plenty; at least with the bat. With Saurav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and the skipper himself showing good form with the bat; there is no place still for comeback man Virender Sehwag.
“The team management had decided that the best 11 should play and Gambhir was picked,” said Lalchand Rajput, manager of the team.
But India too have some key areas to work on. The spinners choked the Pakistan middle order in Guwahati but the seamers did leak runs once again in the death overs. It’s an area that needs to be urgently addressed.
“Indians are definitely missing some pace. They have medium pace and left armers. The batsmen get used to it. They have to bring variety,” said Waqar Younis.
The teams now play on Thursday in a day nighter at Mohali and Pakistan know another defeat will leave them with a near impossible task: to win three in a row to win the series.
