Techie's death case: Shinde asks Maharashtra Home Minister for details
The 23-year-old IT engineer's father had met the Home Minister to request for a speedy investigation in the case.

Mumbai: Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has written to the Maharashtra home minister regarding the mysterious death of a 23-year-old IT engineer from Hyderabad whose decomposed body was found in Bhandup over a week ago.

Shinde has intervened in the matter after the 23-year-old girl's father met him earlier on Friday. "Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde accepted my application. Police didn't even register an FIR till we found the body. Maharashtra police did nothing to find my missing daughter. My relatives and I found her a week after she went missing," the victim's father said after meeting Shinde.

Sources also suggest that the family is likely to seek the Prime Minister's appointment.

Even after a week of her charred body being recovered from the site, the Mumbai police is yet to make any headway. The police is screening auto rickshaw and taxi drivers for possible leads.

Surprisingly, the young techie's body was recovered by her family members and not by the Mumbai Police, raising questions about the investigation. Mumbaikars have now come out in protest against the lack of police action. "There have been lapses. They should have been instrumental in finding the body," said a protester Lawrence D'Souza.

The police have recovered her watch and mobile phone, but are still looking for her trolley bag and laptop. The finger of suspicion points to autorickshaw and taxi drivers. But with 2,000 registered drivers in the area, the police are yet to make any headway.

The loss of their daughter, the grieving family says, has been compounded by the tardy investigation. "The top branch of crime department has not looked at it very seriously. That's my personal view. It is left to someone. Basically they looked at eloping area. We did not find one per cent reason for her to elope," said a relative of the victim.

With no CCTV footage available, call data records not providing any significant leads, The Mumbai Police is hoping the canvassing of auto and taxi drivers operating in the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus area, where the 23-year-old was last seen, provides a breakthrough.
