I was tired! We had shot all night for the holi special..where we had a blast shooting qawalli and bluff master sequences....but we wrapped up at 5......took a nap on the couch for about a half hour...and we were out in the wee hours of the morning....to do our morning live!
At that point, belive it or not...I wanted my face to be absolutly covered in color so you couldnt see those tired eyes....and that inner wish was fullfilled and how! Those kids, their enthusiasm...and that fact that i enjhoyed playing with them and their pichkaris..and singing and dancing with them...in the first five minutes...we were all one big happy gang! My only instruction...."you call me uncle one more time and I wont let you color me...the name is paras"....and that was all it took!
While we were doing our lives, the sleep deprivation was soon forgotten, the "no...I don't play holi"....well I still belive I don't because this was all for television (which i must confess I loved!)..... and that plain white kurta that i had on...was anything but white when we were done.
We wrapped up, amd the driver was quick to spread out a sheet of the Times for me to sit on.... And as I reached home...calling this yet another day at work...my neighbours daughters were all ready for me with a buket of water.... "errrr.....I don't plaaaaa..........." Splash! there I was now colored and wet...and smiling...."no point fininshing that sentence now I thought..." I was quick to dab them with some color....rung that door bell....and met dad..
Happy holi he said...
"I had fun," I said..."playing holi after six years dad... Now how do i get to the bathroom? Don't wanna reck the rug"
"Enjoyed playing Holi," Dad asked.
"No, I don't play holi. We were shooting,"I said
Dad and I smiled....because he knew I was actually thinking..
"Wow! It's good to celebrate...I hope I have a good shampoo though!"first published:March 16, 2006, 15:26 ISTlast updated:March 16, 2006, 15:26 IST

"No....I don't play holi..." i kept telling myself, even when I had water splashed over me..."No i don't play holi," i kept telling myself even after one cute kid after another would come and rub color all over my face and hair.....and "no I don't play holi," i kept telling myself...secretly enjoying all the colors, the splashes the enthusiasm around as we were doing our morning live telecast for Holi.
