CHENNAI: With the revised school fee structure shocking parents enough to send them on a hunger strike in the city, Express did a quick scanner of the revised fees across 19 districts in Tamil Nadu (out of 32) to gauge the fee situation around the State based on the district-wise particulars for the 6, 248 schools that appealed. Comparing only schools that offer Classes from LKG to Class 12, Express found that while Chennai’s fees are high - the highest being `25,000 for Class 12 at SBOA Anna Nagar West - the district always offers the widest range in schools, with something to fit every income group. Erode’s ‘cheapest’ school, for instance, Sree Saravana Niketan Matriculation HSS, Bhavani charges Rs 4350 for LKG classes and Rs 8,050 for Class 12. On the other hand, Chennai’s cheapest option Kennedy Martriculation HSS School in Old Washermanpet will admit your child into LKG for Rs 2550 and charges only Rs 6,100 for Class 12.The most expensive school in the State, meanwhile, is located not in Chennai, but in adjoining Tiruvallur district. SBIOA Model and Matriculation HSS, Mogappair (yes, it falls under the Chennai Metropolitan Area) charges a whopping `26,600 for Class 12 and `16,400 for LKG. In Madurai district, SBOA (Nagamalai West) trumps again, charging `22,700 for Class 12 and `11,650 for LKG. The least expensive school there is Sree Maha Matriculation HSS where you can join (LKG) and leave (Class 12) the school for `3850. Other pricey options in the State include Erode’s Vivekanantha Matriculation HSS which charges ` 23,700, Coimbatore’s Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan MHSS which charges `20,300, Ooty’s Kotagiri Public School (` 23,050) and Salem’s Sri Vidya Mandir Matriculation HSS (`22,500) all for Class 12.The least expensive options in the State are: Tiruchi’s Hilda Thomas YWCA MHSS which charges `4900 for LKG and `3150 for Class 12; Dindigul’s Holy Cross MHSS which charges `3400 for LKG and `3300 for Class 12; Kancheepuram’s St Mary’s MHSS, Kelambakkam (`3150 for LKG and `4900 for Class 12).(Visit tn.gov.in/departments/sedu/revised_feestructure/default.html for the complete details)
