BANGALORE: People in the recent past are losing interest in dramas. With the popularity of cinema and television serials increasing, theatre is losing its charm, bemoaned Justice A C Kabbin, chairman of Karnataka Administrative Tribunal, after inaugurating Rangachetana: Janapara Samskruti Utsav 2012-13 here on Monday.Justice Kabbin said that Kannada drama is losing importance as students at both school and college levels are not showing any interest in the language.Unlike Britishers, who promote Shakespeare dramas in English, the judge regretted that there was no such effort here to promote Kannada drama. Agreeing with Justice Kabbin, Litterateur Dr D K Chowta said that the number of people heading to watch Kannada dramas on weekends has decreased. Justice Naga Mohandas, judge of High Court said, “Dramas enlighten people by bringing them from their dark world towards light. With the advent of globalisation, everything is taking a commercial shape.”
