Shifting servers to India will also make it easier to take legal action against social media sites which host such content.
New Delhi: In an effort to make it easier to monitor dangerous content, the Central government is likely to ask social media companies to shift their servers to India. The move is being pondered over after a Bengaluru youth was discovered to have been running the twitter propaganda for the Islamic State.
According to sources, the government has spoken with the heads of social media companies in India. Shifting servers to India will also make it easier to take legal action against social media sites which host such content.
The decision was taken after Law Minister DV Sadananda Gowda held meetings with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology in December.
