BANGALORE: A Krishna Swamy, retired Chief Conservator of Forest, expressed his displeasure over the recent happenings surrounding the widening of Sankey Tank road. Speaking after presenting awards to the employees of forest department here on Monday, he opposed the indiscriminate chopping of trees in the name of infrastructure development. He also urged the BBMP to involve forest department members to identify green belts in the outskirts of the city as they are equipped with the techniques.
K Narayana Gowda, ViceChancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences who was present on the occasion expressed concern over the declining interest of farmers towards cultivation. "In the long run this attitude will affect the food security of the country," he said adding that the university would focus on the issue during the Krishimela which is held in November.Around eight people from the forest department were awarded for their contribution in protecting and preserving the forest.
