Bhaskara Bhoi (63), a tribal of Kirba under Burla police limits, begs for a living. Simultaneously, he runs from pillar to post to free his land allegedly encroached on by a university.
Forcible acquisition of the land brought Bhaskar to the streets and turned him a pauper.Reports said Veer Surendra Sai Unitary University (VSSUT) had illegally encroached upon 1.380 acre owned by Bhoi and erected permanent structures on some portion of the land.
Bhaskar could know about it after the death of his father Satpathy Bhoi, a decade back and since then it had been a long-drawn fight for him to get the land back.
Subsequently he moved the University authorities and along with local Councillor Bhaskar Mirdha of Burla NAC, asked them to hand over the encroached land.
The University authorities asked them for the ROR which they submitted on June 12 after which the University assured them to look into their claim. But Bhoi was in for a shock when the University informed him that the scheduled land was in their possession and refused to vacate the same.
Later Bhaskar Bhoi approached the court of the sub-collector seeking his intervention.
Registrar of VSS University of Technology Dinabandhu Minz, however, said he was unaware of any such issue and denied having received any notice from the sub-collector’s office.
