BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has identified land in five places of the City for construction of hostels for poor tribal students. The hostels will help them pursue higher and technical studies.The five places are Pokhariput, Ghatikia, Kalinga Nagar, Mancheswar and Chandrasekharpur. Expression of interest has been sought from architects for the buildings. The issue was discussed at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here. It was decided that the tender process for the hostel buildings will be started by July-end. Each of the hostels will have a capacity to accommodate 200 students. The seats in the hostels will be increased subsequently.The State Government had decided that hostels will be constructed in Bhubaneswar, Rourkela and Berhampur for tribal students. Hostels in Rourkela and Berhampur will have capacity of 300 each.Official sources said Berhampur already has such a hostel with a capacity of 120 seats. Besides, 25 more students have taken admission this year. Two more hostels with a capacity of 100 seats each will be constructed in the existing hostel complex.Land has been identified at Bandhamunda in Rourkela for construction of such a hostel. It was decided that 50 students will be admitted this year and accommodated in a hostel at Uditnagar.
