VELLORE: Vellore Government Medical College played host to an unusual and heartening event on Thursday when two women admitted in the hospital delivered triplets, within hours of each other. Uma (29) and her husband, Anandan, a farmer from Polur in Tiruvannamalai, have a five-year-old daughter. At around 11.30 am, Uma had a normal delivery, giving birth to three baby girls, weighing 1.79, 1.7 and 1.8 kg in order of their birth.Three hours later, at 2.30 pm, Ragini (24) delivered three baby boys by Caesarean section. She and her husband, Palani, a carpenter from Vandaranthangal near Katpadi, already have a two-year-old son. As all the six newborns were underweight, the hospital authorities have decided to keep them in an incubator for a week.According to Dr Arunan, the RMO, the hospital has delivered three sets of triplets in the last year, with one set of triplets being born last month.
