UK court notifies CBI on Bofors move
The UK Crown Prosecution Service says Indian government had asked them to move court to defreeze Quattrocchi's bank account in London.

New Delhi: In the latest twist to the Bofors tale, UK's Crown Prosecution Service on Friday, informed CBI that the Indian government has asked them to move court to defreeze Ottavio Quattrocchi's bank account in London.

The Crown Prosecution has also asked CBI to verify their position in the case.

On its part, the CBI says it is still on the job trying to extradite Quattrocchi.

Two days after the CNN-IBN expose of the law ministry's move to allow London courts to de-freeze Quattrocchi's bank accounts, the CBI said the case against Quattrocchi had not been dropped.

CBI Spokesperon G Mohanty said, "CBI is making all efforts to extradite him."

The UPA Government has maintained that the CBI has found no evidence against the Italian businessman in the Bofors payoff case and this was conveyed to the British Government.

Law Minister H R Bhardwaj has said that the Crown Prosecution and the British government had over the past two years sought evidence against Quattrocchi.

The British government had frozen Quattrocchi's bank accounts in United Kingdom and offshore islands on India's request three years ago.

The onus now lies on India's apex investigating agency. The CBI is caught between the devil and the deep sea and has to come clear on their role in this new Bofors controversy.
