Three persons, including two women, died in Uttarakhand's Tehri district when a portion of the under-construction Chardham all-weather road caved in and the rubble fell over their house early on Friday morning following heavy rains.
The buttress of the all-weather road caved in following heavy rains near Hindolakhal on Rishikesh-Chamba-Gangotri highway around 4 am and the rubble came crashing on a double-storey building in Kheragad village killing three persons sleeping inside it, Tehri's District Magistrate Mangesh Ghildiyal said.
The house belongs to Dharma Singh. The deceased were his son Ankit (19), daughter Vinita (28) and a relative's daughter Neelam (21), he said, adding the bodies have been recovered. A magisterial probe headed by SDM Yukta Mishra, and a technical probe by executive engineers of PWD, PMGSY and irrigation department have been ordered to ascertain the cause of the incident, the district magistrate said.
The incident has angered the locals who are questioning the manner in which the Border Roads Organisation is constructing the ambitious all-weather road.
