Lucknow: The son of Uttar Pradesh Medical Education Minister Virendra Singh Bundela, Sanjay Singh, has been shot dead by assailants in Lalitpur district on Thursday evening.
Police said the 28-year-old Singh, who was recently elected as a zila panchayat member, and his aide were shot dead near Chilgam railway crossing.
Unconfirmed reports said another person had been killed in the shootout. Several people were said to have sustained wounds in the firing.
Sources said the incident could have been the fallout of a show of strength between political rivals for the coming elections to the post of chairman of zila panchayat.
Senior police officials have reached the spot and a search is on for the assailants.
Bundela is the Samajwadi Party MLA from Lalitpur.
