VYPEEN: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan said that the implementation of the Vaidyanathan committee report on the cooperative sector would undermine the democratic values of the sector.While inaugurating the Narakkal Service Cooperative Bank silver jubilee valedictory function and opening the new extension counter, he stated that if the report is implemented, it will ruin the sector, and 1,603 cooperative banks across the state will bear the brunt of the senseless recommendations.The state’s cooperative sector, the foundation on which the agricultural and rural economy thrived, was a model for the whole country, he said, adding that the dismissal of the cooperative bank administrative committee was unconstitutional.VS urged the govt to liberalise the terms and conditions in granting educational loans, and requested the revival of the Farmer Debt Relief Commission to protect the agricultural sector.
