THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was a boring Valentine’s Day for techies at Technopark. They must have exchanged roses, gifts and hugs, but an unexpected cancellation of a Valentine’s bash disrupted the plans of many. The highlight of Tuesday’s Valentine’s celebration on the Technopark campus was a DJ party arranged at Harmony@food. However, following a complaint raised by a company in Technopark, the party was cancelled at the last minute. The mail sent by the restaurant authorities said: “Valentine’s DJ on the floor event has to be cancelled as a company in Leela Infopark has informed the management that the event will interrupt its daily functions.” However, the move irked many techies who were getting ready for the DJ party. They questioned the decision of the company as the party was scheduled for 6.30 pm, which is not a working time for most of the firms. Posters of the DJ party were pasted all over the campus. The campus, with around 30,000 employees, most of them youngsters, gives much importance to V-Day. Some techies planned to gather at Harmony@food for the party in protest against the decision of the company. “It was a decision against celebrating Valentine’s Day,” said Renjith Ramachandran, a techie. Meanwhile, some companies, such as Allianz Cornhill, arranged Valentine’s Day bash for their employees. Several techies are of the opinion that Valentine’s Day must be celebrated just as any other festival.
