CHENNAI: “Mind is required and not money to build a good career,” said Justice K Venkataraman, Judge of the Madras High Court, speaking at the eighth Graduation Day at Valliammai Engineering College on Sunday.Students of the college, located on SRM University campus in Kattankulathur, listened in rapt attention as Justice Venkataraman went on, “Getting a graduation is not sufficient or the end of life. You need to travel a long way ahead. Rather than being an employee, be a person who provides employment opportunities to others. Also, never forget the institution you studied in, the teachers who moulded you and, finally, the parents who are the the most important part of your life.”Justice Venkataraman said that present day engineers needed to be equipped with knowledge of the latest technologies in their respective fields and their implementation for the betterment of society. A total of 533 graduands received their graduation certificates. Thirteen of them received gold medals from Anna University, six being from the Department of Management Studies, three from Electronic and Communication Engineering and two each from Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology.Dr M Balasubramanian, Principal, Valliammai Engineering College, presented the academic report pointing out the achievements of the students and the faculty in the current academic year.Ravi Pachamoothoo, chairman, SRM Group of institutions, Dr M Ponnavaikko, Vice-Chancellor, SRM University, and N Sethuraman, Registar, SRM University, were present on the occasion.
