Veena, a Path to Salvation

CHENNAI: It is the instrument one associates with the learned ilk of Goddess Saraswathi and sage Narada.Speaking of its reverence was a person no less than the Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of the Kanchi Mutt himself, who called the Veena an instrument which could show the artiste who played it the path to salvation. The seer said this at an awards event organised by cultural organization Nada Sudha here on Tuesday.Calling the Veena an instrument that clearly towers above the others, the seer said it was capable of telling a good player how to attain salvation. While music has the property to instill happiness and peace, today’s music is such that it is harmful to the listener, he said.
