Positioned near the Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbor, a towering lighthouse structure is a familiar sight for the local community, who see it regularly as part of their daily lives. The residents of the nearby areas, particularly those in Relli Street, came up with a unique idea- why not recreate the iconic lighthouse as part of their Ganesh pandal for the upcoming festivities? They believed that setting up a Ganesh pandal in the form of a lighthouse would be an innovative way to honour both their city’s heritage and the beloved deity.
Inspired by this idea, the Editing Boys, a group of enthusiastic locals from Relli Street, took the initiative to design a Ganesh pandal with a lighthouse theme. This creative pandal has now become a central attraction in the area, drawing in large crowds. In Visakhapatnam, where the lighthouse is a significant landmark, this imaginative adaptation of a Ganesh pandal stands out for its originality. The Ganesh idol is set within a lighthouse structure, symbolising not just the deity’s presence but also the city’s connection to the sea.
Adding to the novelty, the organisers have created a restaurant-like atmosphere beneath the lighthouse. Here, the Ganesh idol takes on a managerial role, depicted as a cash manager overseeing the restaurant. The pandal features a family cabin, where statues of people are seen enjoying meals with their children, and another cabin where some figures appear to be having snacks and drinks.
The organisers mentioned that every year they strive to come up with a fresh and creative idea for their Ganesh idol, and this year they chose the lighthouse theme to reflect their connection to Visakhapatnam. They further shared that the local youth have been actively involved in the celebrations, performing traditional poojas and later immersing the Ganesh idol on the beach. This unique lighthouse-themed pandal has not only become a highlight of the festival but also serves as a testament to the creativity and devotion of the people of Visakhapatnam.
