CHENNAI: The name of the shop indicated the sanguine mood that prevailed at Vidya Sagar on Tuesday. As part of its youth programme that seeks to help youngsters with disability, the organisation, formerly called the Spastics Society of India, launched a marketing unit christened 'Kalakkal kadai' to act as a bridge between potential consumers and differentlyabled entrepreneurs. The shop, located at the organisation's premises in Kotturpuram, will house products made by adults with disability from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.Rohini Ramesh, Coordinator- Resources, said that while schooling for the differently-abled has been cracked, with a number of organisations providing great service in the field, it was the question of 'What after school?' that worried persons with disability. The marketing unit was a platform where such persons could showcase their products to the larger public and thereby attract potential customers. The items on display at the unit included woven durries, batik textiles, laminated products, paper products, leaf ware, food products and many more.Apart from the marketing centre, the organisation would also conduct workshops by top designers to enhance the existing skills of the differently-abled.This would also help maintain the rigorous quality standards of the products, said Rohini. The shop would be open between 10am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday.Differently-abled adults who wish to showcase their products in the shop could contact Vidya Sagar at 044-223547840.
