ALUVA: In spite of the directive of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to curb the activities of goons and the assurance of police top brass to contain criminals and quotation gangs, the attack on innocent people by the goons seems to be on the rise.
In the latest incident, a roadside vendor of garments, Kunjumohammed, 53, of Kizhakkedeth, Perumbavoor, was brutally attacked by a goon when the former was doing business on the Railway Station Road here on Thursday. Kunjumohammed suffered severe injuries on his head after he was hit on the head with an iron rod. The injured was admitted to Karothukuzhi Hospital. He has more than 40 stitches on his head. The accused, Sunil Kunjattukkara, came in a car to attack Kunjumohammed. However, the local people retaliated and caught the assailant and thrashed him. The police rushed to the spot and took the accused to the Aluva District Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital under police surveillance.It is said that Sunil attacked Kunjumohammed owing to mistaken identity. Sunil was reportedly cheated by a person Suresh who took Rs 75,000 from him promising to arrange a visa.
