Kolkata: Irked by the 'slow' pace of voting and 'deletion' of names of 'genuine voters' from the electoral rolls in West Bengal, CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose said the Election Commission should ensure measures for an 'error-free' electoral system on Wednesday.
"What is the genesis of the voting system? Why is the voting process slow? There should be discussions and Election Commission should ensure measures for an error-free system,"
Bose said, adding that only increasing the budget for conducting the elections would not do. Bose told newsmen that the EC should ascertain the reasons behind the tardy pace of polling, He also claimed that many bonafide voters could not vote as their names had been stricken off from the electoral rolls.
He said that many voters in the three districts of Murshidabad, Birbhum and Burdwan, which went to the polls, could not cast their votes. He said that voting continued even after the scheduled end at 1700 hours (IST).
