Wish trees bring joy this week

As part of the Joy of Giving week 2012, several events were organised all over the city on Thursday.

A collection drive of clothes, toys and stationery was organised by L&T at Madambakkam, where several employees contributed on day one itself. The drive will go on for two more days.

Sonia, a representative of the collection drive, said, “Apart from this, we have collaborated with five NGOs. Each organisation has a wish tree on the campus. On Thursday, we collected over `75, 000.  We started off with a tentative target of ` 1 lakh.” The proceeds from each wish tree would go to the respective NGO.

A group of children from the Marriott Home were given a training in general hygiene and cleanliness. They were also treated to lunch with the associates of the Courtyard Marriott hotel, and also an entertainment session. Children at Dharmapuram Colony in T Nagar also had an eventful day, as they were given notebooks and stationery to help them in their studies.

The women of the city were not left behind, with a training workshop being held for 75 of them. A self help group (SHG) from the coastal community conducted a workshop in making artificial jewellery to supplement their income, apart from fish processing.
