Kolkata: A woman was raped multiple times and was blackmailed by a businessman for nearly a year, a Kolkata Police officer said on Tuesday.
"The victim (30), a resident of Jodhpur Gardens in Kolkata, lodged a complaint against a person named Rakesh Chowdhury for allegedly blackmailing and raping her multiple times," Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime) Vishal Garg said.
The accused has been arrested by the police after the complaint was filed. "A case has been lodged against the accused on the charges of rape (IPC 376) and criminal intimidation (IPC 506)," he added.
In the complaint, the victim who is from Assam had come to Kolkata for higher studies said that she met Chowdhury and his wife in a club through her common friend at a party. She was invited by the accused to a party and was offered drinks. After that the accused took her took to a place near Kolkata's Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. He then drugged her drink and raped her when she became unconscious.
According to the victim, the accused also took her pictures during the act and later threatened to make those pictures public if she refused to meet him again.
She also alleged that the accused made her go through two abortions in the span of one year when he repeatedly assaulted her. She even confronted his wife who lashed out at the victim of believing her.
The victim has been taken for medical tests at State run SSKM Hospital.
